Registry Mechanic has two scanning functions:
To commence a deep and comprehensive scan of the Windows Registry (Full Scan), click either the Scan Your Computer button on the Main Status screen or the Start Scan button on the left of the screen.
Registry Mechanic starts a Full Scan, which scans all key sections of the Windows Registry.
To conduct a Custom Scan, click the Options button the left of Registry Mechanic's screen, followed by the Custom Scan button on the Options screen. The Custom Scan screen displays.
Select the available sections of the registry that you wish to scan by selecting or clearing the appropriate check boxes.
Click the Start Scan button to commence the scan.
If you made changes to your selections, a message prompts you to save these changes. Click Yes to continue with your section selection and save it. Click No to cancel your section selection and continue with your previously saved selection.
Notes:
If you have changed the section selection prior to clicking the Start Scan button, a message displays, prompting you to save changes:
Click Yes to save your section selection and continue scanning with this selection.
Click No to discard your section selection. Control returns to the Main Status screen.
By default, the first 10 sections on the Custom Scan screen are selected.
During a scan, the Scanning screen is displayed. As Registry Mechanic scans your system, colored bars increment from left to right, providing an indication of how far the scan has progressed. The upper bar indicates the overall scan progress, while the lower bar indicates the progress of the current section being scanned.
The time taken to progress through a scan depends on a number of factors, including:
The number of sections you have requested Registry Mechanic to scan.
The speed of your system.
The amount of problems found in your Registry.
Any third party applications running in the background, such as virus protection software.
To stop the scan at any time, click the Stop button. A message prompts you to confirm if you wish to cancel the current scan.
To continue with the current scan, click the No button.
To terminate the current scan, click the Yes button. The Scan and repair summary screen displays, where you can click Continue to go back to the Main Status screen.
When Registry Mechanic has finished scanning your system, the Scan results screen displays. Here you can view the individual problems detected by the scan and modify the actions you require before implementing them with the Repair function.
